Dr. Parnell has trained thousands of clinicians in Attachment-Focused EMDR nationally and internationally. Beyond the treatment of PTSD, EMDR is a somatic intervention for the psychological effects of smaller traumas, depression, anxiety, phobias, low self-esteem, creativity blocks, and relationship difficulties. Healing often occurs more rapidly than in traditional therapy, and clearing emotional and physical blockages frequently brings a sense of joy, openness, and deeper connection with others.
A biological approach to healing trauma. Somatic Experiencing addresses core nervous system functions to resolve the stuck symptoms of past difficult events that remain in the body. Rather than talking about what happened, you pay attention to what you feel right now, tightness, shaking, heat, and slowly let your body finish that stuck reaction, so you can feel calm and safe again.
The purpose is to see your mind clearly, and stop being so jerked around by it. By sitting quietly and watching your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations, without chasing the good ones or fighting the bad ones, you learn that they all come and go on their own. That helps you react less, worry less, and feel more at peace, even after the retreat ends.
IFS says your mind isn't one single "you," it's made up of inner parts, like a part that worries, a part that procrastinates, a part that's harsh on you, a part still hurt from the past. Underneath all these parts is your Self: calm, curious, and compassionate. The goal isn't to get rid of any part, but to understand why they act the way they do, usually trying to protect you, and help them relax, with your Self leading instead of one part taking over.
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy offers new hope for treatment-resistant depression, depression that hasn't responded to standard medications or talk therapy alone. A low, medically supervised dose of ketamine helps quiet the mind's rigid, self-critical patterns, opening a window where deep emotional work becomes possible. Paired with the guidance of a trained therapist, this approach helps people access insights and relief that felt out of reach before, often creating meaningful shifts in just a few sessions.
